40 Icebreakers for Any Meeting

Steal My Questions to Kickstart Creative Conversations and Team Collaboration

Here’s the thing about icebreakers: They’re not everyone’s favorite—some people even downright take a stand against them, and it’s a real shame.

Sure, when done half-heartedly, they can be cheesy or a poor use of time. That’s why choosing the right icebreaker for the moment is an art, and not all icebreakers are right for all moments.

But when you nail it—even if there’s some initial resistance to your icebreaker—it creates more connection, camaraderie, and ease among the group. I can’t think of a single modern workplace that couldn’t benefit from that!

Here are a few other reasons to love icebreakers:

  • They allow people to check in personally with one another before launching into a meeting, gathering, or tough working session.

  • They can facilitate just the right level of openness, keeping the (sometimes) awkward banter from going on too long when you’re trying to get things rolling.

  • They can prime a group’s mindset for the work ahead because they provide a shift in perspective or a new insight through reflection.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I’ve shared a number of my favorite icebreakers in the past (these posts are still some of my most-read!).

To make it easier to access all of them, I created a downloadable guide. It includes some of my old reliables and new, Jackie-approved prompts. I’ve organized them into groups with my tips for when to use them. Simply add your email below and your freebie will instantly download!

I hope it gives you the confidence to start your next meeting or workshop on a strong note!
